December 6 – Santa Claus

When I was very small, maybe 4, I remember sitting on Santa’s lap and giving him a detailed description of where we lived and all the rabbits that we had. This was unusual for me, because I was so painfully shy and very seldom said anything. I would hide behind people and kind of peek around them. May and George told this story for years.

I used to write letters to Santa when I was little, I don’t remember what I wrote but I’m sure I asked for lots of toys. Since I was an only child so, I always got lots of stuff. I was very sad when I finally figured out that my parents were really Santa!

We would get Christmas catalogs from J.C. Penny, Montgomery Ward, and Sears. I would go through and circle all the things I wanted. I didn’t get everything of course, but the things I did get, I liked! It may be the thought that counts, but there is a lot to be said for picking your own gifts.

I joked a few days ago about shopping with my husband; I was going to show him what I liked! As it turns out, I was happily surprised when he actually showed me what he wanted to get me, a new camera. When my Sony camera broke a couple of years ago, he gave me his Nikon. Well, I have tried but I have never liked it and the pictures where never as good. And so, this year I am really looking forward to the gift from my husband!
