December 9 – Grab Bag

Christmas 1975
Since this is a topic of my choice, I have plucked this photo from the grab bag to write about. It was taken in 1975 at Christmas time. I guess the decorated tree in the background probably already gave that away! This is a photo of Becky and Timmy, we were living in Ordway, Colorado. Tim was working at the Ordway Police Department and Dawna was not yet 2 months old.

May and George had driven from Pueblo to visit and bring presents. Yay! We were busy talking and no one was paying attention to the kids. And when we did notice them, they had dressed themselves in May and George’s coats and hats. They looked so cute, I am so glad we took this picture. It makes me smile every time I look at it.

December 8 – Christmas Cookies

My all time favorite cookies are Peanut Butter cookies. Not a cookie we made at Christmas time though. I remember making Sugar cookies, rolling out the dough, using cookie cutters to cut them into Christmas Shapes, and decorating them with colored frosting and small candies. I also made cookies shaped like Candy Canes using cookie dough that was colored red and green. Ah, fun to make and fun to eat!

Interpex had a Christmas party for the employees and their spouses or significant others as the case might be. We had a lovely meal at a resort in the mountains west of Denver with a beautiful view. I wore a green blouse with a black skirt, which was usual for me because I like black and I wear it often. Anyway, one of the wives was from South Africa and she asked me if my husband had been in the military because wearing a black skirt was traditional for military wives. I thought it was sort of strange but also an interesting piece of trivia. Strange that’s what has stuck in my mind over the years. Read the rest of this entry »
