December 6 – Santa Claus
When I was very small, maybe 4, I remember sitting on Santa’s lap and giving him a detailed description of where we lived and all the rabbits that we had. This was unusual for me, because I was so painfully shy and very seldom said anything. I would hide behind people and kind of peek around them. May and George told this story for years. December 5 – Outdoor Decorations
Melvin would put lights around the window in the living room and across the eave in the front of the house. We always used colored lights, not the clear or white ones. We would buy the spray snow in a can and spray around the window panes to look like frost. I remember driving around and looking at everyone’s lights and I have loved Christmas lights ever since. I have never decorated the outside my house with lights though because I like to look at them and I can’t see them when I’m inside the house. Read the rest of this entry »
December 4 – Christmas Cards
We did send cards, not a lot though. Melvin liked the Currier and Ives style, with a little cottage scene in the snow. So, we often had a card in this theme. I remember visiting the Hamler’s (Calvin and Antoinette) at Christmas time and they had hundreds of cards decorating their walls. I was amazed as a child, I had never seen so many cards!
